About the Author
Li Xuemei is a medical doctor and specialist in both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Born in Beijing in 1956, she completed her studies in Chinese and Western medicine at the Beijing College of Chinese Medicine in 1982. She then worked as a physician at the teaching hospital associated with the college where she taught many Chinese and Western students. Dr. Li has lectured in China, Canada, Switizerland, Yugoslavia and Ireland, where she now lives and practices.

Zhao Jingyi was born in Beijing in 1954. He graduated in 1982 from the Beijing College of Chinese Medicine, where he now teaches. Dr. Zhao is a practicing physician, and teaches propaedeutics in Chinese medicine to Chinese and Western students. In addition to this book, he has published teaching materials for his students, and has conducted much clinical research in this field.

Jim Payne is a drummer, author and producer with an extensive resumé in all three areas. As a drummer he has played with Maceo Parker, The J.B. Horns, The Blues Magoos, Dave Liebman, The Radio City Orchestra, Mike Brecker, Slickaphonics and his own band, New York Funk. He studied drums with Sonny Igoe, Henry Adler, Jim Strassburg, Philly Joe Jones and Bernard Purdie. He has a BA from Yale University, an MBA from Columbia University and has attended The Manhattan School of Music.

He has taught drums for many years, authored Give The Drummers Some!, Funk Drumming and The Complete Book of Funk Drumming and produced the video How To Play Drums From Day One . He has also written articles for Downbeat and Modern Drummer Magazine and produced records for Medeski, Martin and Wood, The J.B. Horns, Fred Wesley, Mike Clark and Paul Jackson and, his own band, Jim Payne’s New York Funk.

About the Author
Peter Williams (1937-2016) was an internationally renowned Bach scholar and performer. He held the first Chair in Performance Practice in Britain at the University of Edinburgh, where he was Director of the Russell Collection of Harpsichords and latterly Dean of Music. He was also the first Arts and Sciences Distinguished Chair at Duke University, North Carolina. He was the author of many books, including The Organ Music of J. S. Bach (3 volumes, Cambridge, 1981-1984), Bach, Handel, Scarlatti 1685-1985 (Cambridge, 1985), The Life of Bach (Cambridge, 2003) and J. S. Bach: A Life in Music (Cambridge, 2007).
